Free Fishing Weekend

  • June 13 & 14, 2026

All fishing license fees will be waived for two days. Residents and out-of-State visitors may enjoy fishing on both inland and Great Lakes’ waters for all species of fish. All fishing regulations will still apply.

Cass River Rough Fish Derby

  • June 13, 2026

Evergreen Park, Sanilac County
a free, family-oriented catch-and-release fishing event held at Evergreen Park on the "Dead Waters" section of the Cass River in Sanilac County. The derby coincides with Michigan's Free Fishing Weekend, meaning no fishing licenses are required to participate.

paddle and swim

Annual Paddle and Swim

  • Annually in June

Area swimmers and paddlers are invited to join in the camaraderie for the annual event. Kayaks, canoes and paddleboards should meet at the Tuscola Park Launch and depart at 9:30 am or meet at the Downtown Vassar Launch and depart at 7:00 am. Swimmers will depart from the 9000 block of Ormes Road at 9:00 am. Pontoons will assist and escort the swimmers downstream to Heritage Park in Frankenmuth. Wet suits are recommended for swimmers.

Christmas on the Cass Lighted Kayak Parade

  • August 1, 2026

Frankenmuth Parks & Rec will again sponsor a kayak paddle event where participants decorate their kayaks with Christmas type lights and decorations. The paddle takes place at dusk, launches from Heritage Park Kayak Launch and cruises through downtown Frankenmuth. Visit the Frankenmuth Parks and Rec website for more details.

The Great Lakes Rendezvous

The Great Lakes Historical and Educational Association will be hosting their Annual Great Lakes Rendezvous at Davis Park, 6206 Dixie Highway, Bridgeport, MI. The event features 1760s French and Indian War Encampments, Muzzleloader and Historic Craftsmen Demonstrations, Canoe Activities and various costume displays. Sturgeon release

Lake Sturgeon Release

The Michigan DNR and US Fish & Wildlife Service have announce preliminary plans for the two releases of Great Lakes Sturgeon into the Cass River (one of four Saginaw Bay Watershed Rivers to receive sturgeon). The releases will take place downstream of the rock ramp in downtown Frankenmuth. Look for more details to follow.
